Healthcare
HCA Florida Palmetto Emergency is a freestanding emergency department (FSED) operated by HCA Florida Blake Hospital in Manatee County. The facility is open 24/7 and is staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, along with nurses, paramedics, radiology, laboratory, and pharmacy technicians. It includes 10 exam rooms, a trauma bay, and on-site X-ray, CT, ultrasound, laboratory, and pharmacy services. Built to expand access to emergency care for Palmetto, Ellenton, Parrish, and nearby communities, the FSED offers hospital-level emergency services without requiring a full inpatient hospital on the site. It is an extension of HCA Florida Blake Hospital, a 383-bed tertiary hospital in Bradenton. Freestanding EDs have grown rapidly nationwide as health systems add access points in growing areas. According to analyses of the National Emergency Department Inventory (NEDI-USA), about 1% of U.S. EDs were freestanding in 2001, rising to ~11% by 2016 (and continuing to expand thereafter.
